In celebration of Philippine Charity and Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) 75th Anniversary, they will hold “100% in One Day,” a simultaneous medical, dental, feeding and information-generating mission in 42,000 barangays nationwide on September 6, 2009. Few weeks ago, while waiting for the LRT 1 (Light Rail Transit 1) I have read the advertisement regarding the said event. I became interested since I have nothing to do. So, I searched it up in the web. Unfortunately there was no information regarding the registration for volunteers so I gave up that thought. However, when I went to PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) today, I have read another advertisement posted regarding the health mission for volunteers with details and all so I grabbed it. I called the office and they were very glad to receive more volunteers for the said event.

Here are some details that I got upon calling:

General Orientation for Volunteers
Date: September 3, 2009
Time: 2:00 PM
Place: Executive Lounge 4th Floor PCSO (E. Rodriguez Sr. Ave. Quezon City)

*Graduates of any medical field courses are also welcome
*Food and Certificates will be provided upon participating the health mission on Sept. 6, 2009

The health mission is NATIONWIDE (I still don’t know the list of location) so it depends on the volunteer on where he/she wants to participate.

They are very much in need of volunteers (RN, MD, and other health care providers) so please… PLEASE do spread the word…

This is very much applicable to me since I am a certified BUM and I want to help and be productive. (nice…:])

July 25: Rain of Blessings and of Tears…

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

I can clearly remember that day… The weather was the same as now…
It was raining… Cozy… Gloomy…

July 25, 2009

Everybody’s texting, checking the web and online whether it’s on Facebook, Friendster, Multiply or YM…

I put my fone away where I can’t see nor hear it… I was offline(which rarely happen)… Instead, I went to my room, watched Lost where I can be far from all the anxious, stressed, nervous and toxic people saying news that IT IS ALREADY OUT…

I fell asleep… I was exhausted…

Then, Something woke me up, around 9PM… (maybe it’s my gut…)
I went to the other room and checked on my fone…
There were 30+ messages about THE RESULTS…
Yes, THE RESULTS of the NURSING LICENSURE EXAM…
The long awaited has finally arrived…
As I’ve checked on it… There were 2 of my friends who congratulated me because I WAS ON THE LIST.

I PASSED.

My heart was pounding (heeey, I need Amniodarone.)… My hands are stone cold and I was starting to grasp for air…
I checked it for myself, looked for my name with my sister, Roxanne…
and there I WAS…

board

I jumped like it was New Year… I felt Christmas in July… I shouted like there was no tomorrow…

I PASSED!!!

I am a REGISTERED NURSE…

This is the greatest birthday gift that I’ve ever received… (since my birthday is on July 27)

My sister and I went nuts— or should I say… I WENT NUTS. Complete state of EUPHORIA
Mama wasn’t there with me for she and my brother went out for a swim… (She actually got angry for I didn’t come… she didn’t understand what I was feeling… I felt it coming and so I didn’t join them…)

I was practicing before breaking her the news… I was actually practicing “Ma, ginawa ko naman lahat ng makakaya ko… pero wala talaga eh… gagalingan ko na lang sa susunod na exam… hindi ko nakita yung name ko eh…”

Oh well… It backfired. She already knew because my tita already told her. Mama called me and she was CRYING… Yes, CRYING because of HAPPINESS…

THANK YOU GOD FOR THIS WONDERFUL GIFT…

The rain indeed poured out blessings for those who made it, while for most, as the rain was pouring hard, tears simultaneously ran down their faces and their loved ones and I believe you know why…

I was saddened too for some of my closest friends were not on the list… and though I know what therapeutic communication is, I don’t know how to comfort and console them…

This is not to brag… Cry until your eyes fall out but rest assured, there will be a greater glory for you… It is hard and painful, I know, but the fight is not yet over, it will only be over when you give up and if you did give up, that is when you call yourself a LOSER because you see, every after the rain is a rainbow, and at the end of the rainbow is always a pot of gold.

So, cheer up my friend…

This is where you learn and this is when you will know how many your true friends are. I may seem to be far and seem not to care… I hope you know that I was giving you your personal space until your ready. I hope you know that I am always here for you… Never did I cease to pray for our success and I’ll continue to pray for it…

There is always a reason for everything and why this had happened, let us just trust HIS plan…  There is nothing to be shy or afraid of, it is not the number of takes you made… it is on how you will be the great nurse GOD has planned you to be… Don’t punish yourself, instead, find strength in yourself as God has always believed in you. One thing that I’ve learned from one TV Series that I watch… “Never allow other people to tell you things that you CANNOT do…”. Look at it as one hell of a motivation and move on…(sounds cliche but its indeed true…)

Keep up the good fight. I know you can do it because you are a FIGHTER… you are a WINNER

You were not left out, you’re plane hasn’t come yet… as you know here in the Philippines, flights are always delayed… LOL!

As one of the television ad said… “Never say die, there is always another day…”

P.S
This is not my thank you speech, I would just like to give a big hug to my friends out there who…. (well, I can’t say it myself… *sigh*). This is what I say when we were texting/chatting…

Performance of Nursing Schools June 2009 Nursing Licensure Examination (FEU)

Monday, July 27th, 2009

People have misconceptions regarding the board exam rating of each nursing schools. The rating depends on the total number of students from the particular school/university who took the test. From there, the percentage will be computed as to the number of examinees who passed the test.

If you think the percentage of a certain school or university is low, take note of the number of examinees representing the school/university because the percentage is not based on the over-all examinees in the Philippines, it is based per school/university.

I would like to emphasize the rating of my Alma Mater, FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY-MANILA… In addition, Of course, this is my graduating batch…

Far Eastern University, Manila ranked 14 in the 100 and above number of examinees category.

There were 1845 first takers (this is us, FEU-IN Batch 2009) and 1559 or 84% examinees passed. For the repeaters, there were 212 examinees and 67 or 32% passed.

For the overall tally, there were 2057 examinees (3rd largest population in the same category) and 1626 or 79% passed.

The result is not bad, in fact, this is an excellent rating because I believe CHED considers the result with the number of first takers examinees.

Good Job Dean Annabelle Borromeo, Mr. Taha Jejin Nonog and Mr. Terrence Ranjo (Nursing Audit Coordinators) and to all the Institute of Nursing Faculty (Lecturers and Clinical Instructors)!!! Thank You SOooOOOoo Much! We couldn’t have achieved this victory without your help, guidance and support…

To my batch mates, Congratulations!!! We really deserve it. Our hard work and efforts paid off… I believe we have regained the glory days of FEU…

Proud to be a Tamaraw Nurse!

Geriatric Nursing Reaction Paper…

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Old age scares a lot of people— including me. Often, they associate it with disease, degeneration and death. Less do people know that old age comes with the word “WISDOM”

What is great about nursing is that you deal with life the moment you start to breathe, the moment it takes your breath away and the moment you halt to breathe. Nursing is in every stage of life and I am very glad that I have chosen this field.

When I first learned that our concept will be about Geriatric Nursing, I became doubtful of my dealing and communicating skills. Honestly, I am not that close to my grandparents and so I don’t have the slightest idea on how to deal with them. In addition, they are not that “old” as to compare with the geriatric population in the barangay we were assigned. Most people say that I am insensitive with the things that I say or do and so, I became afraid of hurting their feelings with the questions and reactions I give to them given the fact that we are in a different generation. However, as the interview goes, I felt at ease with them when they shared things I didn’t expect them to say and so, I was touched and I was glad that I did earned their trust.

There are few but significant learning that I have gained in this rotation, First, I learned that elders are easy to please. You can easily make them happy with the simple things you do for them one of which is to LISTEN. Second, I learned that everything would run smoothly, if you have built a strong rapport with the people you will work with. Third, I realized that being a student nurse isn’t just about complying with the requirements, it is about learning by doing things from the bottom of your heart in order to serve other people. Lastly, geriatrics are still part of the community, they have special needs that we need to attend to. They should be given importance because at one point in our lives, they contributed to the life we are living right now. I mean, who says geriatrics can’t do anything right due to their old age? They possess wisdom and that if we listen to them we can’t go wrong.

This rotation is a proof in the saying “Save the best for last…” Given the fact that this will be our last community exposure in my whole college life, I believe the group had given its best to help the community and made them happy even just for a while. Let them forget about their worries and at the same time learn on how they can maximize their health status.

Learning is a two-way process. I believe in our group’s own little way have touched the lives of the community and definitely, they have touched ours. I will never forget this rotation.

With this rotation, I am very thankful for everything that has happened because it aided my learning not only when it comes to knowledge but also with the skills and attitude required of a beginning nurse practitioner.

—-just posting some of my reflection paper during my duty days ’cause I don’t know what to do with them anymore…LOL!:] I was thinking that I would sell my files but I’d rather not. LOL!:]
