Honestly, at first when we were asked to watch this 1939 movie, I was like “its boring… black and white and never mind…” I actually had difficulty in finding an active downloadable file due to movie age. Watching through this film proved the above statement wrong.

The story line was simple, talked about a life of an elderly classics teacher, Mr. Chippings, looks back over his lengthy teaching tenure as his in his twilight years. The movie, Goodbye Mr. Chips provided a comprehensive look at one teacher’s life and love — from the disciplining of his students to the chance meeting of the love of his life on a mountaintop.

If I had to quote one line from this movie that I could ponder my reflection about t is this:

Chips: I do believe you’ve really meant it, too…Well, that I might be headmaster one of these days.
Katherine: My darling, you’re a very sweet person and a very human person and a very modest person. You have all sorts of unexpected gifts and qualities, so unexpected that you keep surprising even me with them. Never be afraid, Chips, that you can’t do anything you’ve made up your mind to. As long as you believe in yourself, you can go as far as you dream. Certainly you’ll be headmaster, if you want to.

After watching this movie, I realized that if you really wanted something great to happen in your life, you would achieve it as long as you put your every thing to it— time, effort, dedication, compassion and more. Having a dream and making a goal is one of the rare things that are free in this life and with that, we should DREAM BIG. We should not settle for some petty dreams because when you have achieved it, you will just stay in that state until you realize that you still wanted more than that but you don’t have anytime to pursue it.

Another point in the movie is, every one is entitled for improvement. Criticisms are both positive and negative depending on the way you look at it. Positive, when you make it as your inspiration to do more than is expected you to be and negative, when you let it into your system and hindered the realization of your dreams. There is always a chance to change and improvement is good not only for your self but also for the people around you.

Offering one’s life to service is one of the greatest things to do in this world. You can touch many people from generations to generations. Not all people will sacrifice their life just for the sake of the many. It is very heroic and courageous to do. Everyone wants to be remembered after they have gone to the after life and for sure, people who helped in their own little ways in his life deserved to be remembered just like Mr. Chips.

Being a teacher is a tough job because you need to deal with a lot of personalities. You need to be patient, you need to possess authority and most especially you need to be flexible as to the modern times today to be able to reach out to more people. Nevertheless, being a teacher allows you to have extended family because your students will become your children that would really touch your life and will make your life extremely meaningful.

It was indeed a heartwarming film about a teacher and his students. I also remembered the movie, The Dead Poets Society in this film. Goodbye, Mr. Chips may seem dated today to those who demand non-stop action, but as a leisurely paced character study, it still can hold its own.

P.S

This is one of my reaction paper for my Teaching Profession subject. Just in case you need it. Hehe

Red Ribbon never fails to surprise us because they have yet released 2 new cakes for the month of L-O-V-E. Presenting to you the chocolatiest cake that will surely suit your cravings:

Chocolate Heaven

As what its name entails, you will experience heaven as you indulge yourself with it because of its 4-layer combination of creamy of chocolate brownie, chocolate mousse, rich dark chocolate icing and chocolate shaven curls. It really suited my taste because I am a chocolate addict and I super love the classic Chocolate Mousse cake. Chocolate is my energy food. It gets me going. Therefore, Chocolate Heaven, really pumped me up during my late night duties. LOL!

It is up for grabs in all Red Ribbon stores and is available in junior size (P335) and regular size (P560).

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE…

Since Red Ribbon is always present in all occasion as they claimed, they continue to prove it by giving us:

Roses and Kisses Cake

a heart-shaped chocolate pound cake designed with edible sugar roses and Hershey’s milk chocolate Kisses on top. Inside it is filled with layers of chocolate fudge filling coated with white icing.

It is now available for pre-order until February 9, 2009 and is available off the shelf in all Red Ribbon branches nationwide from Febraury 12-14, 2010. Roses and Kisses cake is six diameters in size that is worth P330. It is perfectly in time for Valentine’s Day.

The cake is just sweet and creamy enough to add spice to your “sugary” moment and what’s even delighting about it is you can have it personalized and make it extra special by giving a sweet message for a total of 14-character text before and after the “Happy Valentine’s Day”.

What are you waiting for? Try these very luscious cakes now or else….

Today marked the last day of my exposure to OB Ward. I will surely miss the staff nurses/volunteer nurses there. I learned a lot through them. I was able to handle patients with confidence (though, need more confidence still hihi). Too bad, we just had our duty for approximately 2 weeks. Just when I was getting to love everything about the ward, we were rotated to another. Or may I say… just when the ward increased its census, we were rotated to another.

You will never forget your first exposure because it is your home—where you started. I will definitely DEFINITELY miss them.

This February, I am assigned to Adult Ward. New staff nurses/volunteer nurses and patients to deal with, new environment, new routine, new learning and experience. I hope they would also be nice to us. Also, new duty mates (Yes, I will miss the company of Dennis and Ibay— Wala na akong kasabay umuwi…:\).

So help me God :]

Hello Adult ward :]

P.S
The case presentation of our group was OK. Good thing we were the first to present because the other groups from other wards (Adult and Pedia) were really good. Their cases were really complex. LOL! We presented about Ectopic pregnancy since we handled OB cases.

CAUTION: This is an “EMO” post

No, Not really an “emo” = sad post… Well, more of sentiments…

What I am feeling now?

My brain is rusty. It’s declining (as well as this blog). My neurons are becoming stagnant.

I forgot a lot of Nursing stuff that I learned during my undergrad years (especially during my review days) and I seriously want to enrol myself in another review session. I mean, if you would ask me anything now, I will definitely answer “Sh*t! Alam ko yan dati eh. Nakalimutan ko na…” It’s depressing right?

When I was still studying, if you would ask me something about nursing, I would instantly answer back even when I am asleep. Seriously.

I am now a believer of the theory of “Use and Disuse”. Ooopsss. Let me get that clear. If you don’t use that particular knowledge, you forget about it. You might think that “If you don’t use your brain, it will shrink until it disappears…” well, partly. JK.

At some point, that made me feel less of myself. I should know that. I must not forget that. Confidence level diminished again.

I want to study Nursing again and most especially, I want to gain a lot of experience. I want to hone my skills. I want to be a professional “professional”. I want to learn. I want to lessen my mistakes in the area. I want to be confident. I don’t want to experience the tremors and the palpitations anymore but I know, I will be able to do that in time. I am still a novice. I hope to gain more experience and learning spontaneously (‘cause trainings will end—meaning to be a staff nurse sooner or later, for now) as I live through this career.

Ok. Enough now. Thank you for letting me waste your time.
